You may have heard that a certain Kanye West announced a somewhat dubious presidential run over the holiday weekend. This was briefly very exciting for Elon Musk, who was quick to announce his support for the rapper’s campaign, and almost as quick to rescind it.
Musk announced his “full support” for West following the artist’s July 4 announcement, but after a Twitter user alerted the Tesla founder to West’s controversial anti-abortion and anti-vaccination stances, Musk withdrew his support. “We may have more differences of opinion than I anticipated,” Musk wrote in a since-deleted tweet, according to Dazed.
West elaborated on his presidential run in a Forbes interview earlier this week, revealing some surprising and bizarre details that may have alienated Musk and other initial supporters. West told the outlet he would be running under “The Birthday Party,” because “when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.” The rapper also shared some controversial views on abortion and vaccination, announcing firm anti-abortion intentions and claiming “Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work.” West also declared vaccinations the “mark of the beast,” spoke of god and religion at length and suggested coronavirus could be cured through prayer.
It has been suggested that the interview, which has been described as “rambling,” could be linked to West’s battle with bipolar disorder, according to TMZ. Sources close to the star reportedly told the outlet that friends and family are concerned West is in the midst of a bipolar episode, to which they attribute his recent behavior. West has previously been vocal about his struggle with the mental health disorder, claiming that he prefers not to be on medication as he fears it negatively affects his creativity.
