Martha Stewart would like to make one thing very clear: she is the proud of owner of 21 peacocks. The lifestyle mogul/eligible bachelorette felt the need set the record straight about her bountiful brood over the weekend after a slanderous New York Post article falsely claimed Stewart had a mere 16 peacocks to her name, like some kind of peafowl peasant.
In a tweet Sunday, Stewart slammed the Post for spreading “fake news” once again. “They have a story on peacocks today and say I have sixteen on my farm,” she tweeted. “I actually have 21 of these glorious birds.”
You heard it folks, Martha Stewart has 21 peacocks and wouldn’t be caught dead with a single peacock less — and certainly not a shortage of five. This isn’t amateur hour.
To be fair, the libelous article that so grievously underestimated Stewart’s peacock holdings only mentioned the lifestyle guru/peacock owner in passing, naming Stewart among various other notable peacock presiders, including author Flannery O’Connor and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. Moreover, it’s likely that the Post article — which is about a new book by Sean Flynn chronicling his own experiences as the owner of many peacocks, albeit fewer than Stewart — took the controversial stat about Stewart’s brood from a July 2020 blog post in which the star herself claims to have 16 peacocks “living in a coop surrounded by a large, fully-enclosed yard located just outside my stable and near my Linden Allee.”
Clearly Stewart has since expanded her peacock collection, news a harried New York Post journalist might be forgiven for overlooking. However, the Post article has since been updated to reflect Stewart’s correction, and — perhaps fearing she had come off a bit aggressive — the multi-platform star later clarified in a follow-up tweet that she bears no ill-will toward Flynn, who, she wrote, “sounds like a very nice bird lover” who “understands the lore and beauty of this beautiful breed of bird.”
Just for good measure, however, Stewart also had a few other things she wanted to make clear about her 21 — count ’em, 21 — peacocks. For one thing, she wrote in the original tweet, her birds keep an “impeccable” house. “They do not smell,” she continued. In fact, “They are so clean!” Moreover, while their voices may be loud, they are “such fun to hear,” and last but not least, “They are so friendly.”
Has Martha Stewart made herself clear? The woman has 21 peacocks, okay? They are impeccably clean and fun, and she will not be hearing otherwise, thank you very much.
