Seems we have a binge-watching epidemic on our hands.
Netflix recently released data about their subscribers’ TV-watching habits, and based on their findings, it’s safe to say the days of waiting seven days between episodes are long gone.
According to the streaming giant, we typically finish an entire season in a week.
But not all binges are created equally. Netflix devised a “Binge Scale” that classifies shows among two main subcategories: those we “savor” and those we “devour.” The biggest takeaway of this scale: the way we tend to binge a show is largely a function of its genre.
For example, we tend to savor irreverent comedies (think Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), a show that averages less than 45 minutes of daily couch potato-ing per user. Dramatic comedies (like Orange Is the New Black) and crime dramas, meanwhile, fall in the middle of the “Binge Scale.”
So what are we devouring? Unsurprisingly, horrors and thrillers (American Horror Story; Breaking Bad) top the scale for average daily watch times, at up to two-and-a-half hours per day.
Netflix analyzed more than 100 series and users from more than 190 countries to compile the data. So no matter where your own personal habits rank on the scale, take heart in knowing you’re not alone in your addiction.
And for what it’s worth, we know now you fell behind on Game Of Thrones to check up on the Tanner family.
