On Oct. 10, United Nations banned the Hao Fan 6 from every single port across the globe for violating sanctions on North Korea. Then, the ship disappeared. It was one of four ships the UN put a global port ban on, and the UN has recently passed resolutions blocking North Korea’s ability to export goods like coal and metal ores. The sanctions are part of President Donald Trump’s plan to stop North Korea’s nuclear march by slowly cutting off the country’s cash flow. After going silent on Oct. 6, the Hao Fan 6 did not turn its transponder, the device that tracks ships, on for the rest of the month. Now, it seems to be a drifter, going in circles, with no port to call home.
