A new game created by Chinese tech giant Tencent has players clap for President Xi Jinping’s Communist Party congress address that was given Wednesday.
The new mobile game is called “Excellent Speech: Clap for Xi Jinping,” according to CNBC, and it has uses “clap” by tapping their screens as many times as they can during a span of 19 seconds. Users must first watch a short clip from the nearly three-and-a-half hour speech, and then they can show their appreciation by “clapping.”
According to CNBC, the game had been played more than 400 million times by Wednesday evening. These numbers come from What’s on Weibo, an online outlet that tracks social media trends in China. Some users on WeChat also claimed they had “clapped” about 1,695 times during the game, What’s on Weibo also reported, according to CNBC. By Thursday afternoon, the landing page of the game showed that users had given Xi a total of more than a billion “claps.”
Xi’s speech covered multiple issues, such as a new era of “socialism with Chinese characteristics” and information about his anti-graft campaign, according to CNBC. He also talked about economic reform.
Last month, Tencent, which also runs WeChat, was fined the “maximum amount” for failing to adhere to internet regulations, CNBC reports.
