Former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly opened up about her experience of sexual harassment at the network after watching the fictionalized account of the scandal in the film Bombshell.
“The truth is that I’ve looked back on my own life, every moment from that moment forward, and I do wish I would have done more,” Kelly said in a video shared Thursday after watching the film. Kelly was joined by Juliet Huddy, Rudi Bakhtiar and Julie Zann, fellow former Fox News staffers who experienced sexual misconduct at the network.
Both Huddy and Kelly recalled similar experiences to one depicted in the film in which former Fox News exec Roger Ailes asks a prospective employee to “do a little spin.” Kelly recalled being asked to “twirl,” while Huddy recalled Ailes asking her to, “Turn around let me see your ass.”
While Kelly stayed at the network until 2017, the other three women lost their jobs after reporting their experiences of sexual harassment at the hands of top execs at Fox.
“That was the end of me,” Bakhtiar said. “As soon as I complained, I lost my job.”
While Zann, who said the film “really let Roger off easy,” praised Kelly for her support throughout the scandal at the network, the former Fox anchor expressed regret at not having done more at the time.
“Even though I was powerless, even though it would have been a suicidal move career-wise. What if I had just said, ‘Screw it’?” Kelly said. “What if I had thrown myself into the fire back then?” she said to Zann. “Maybe that wouldn’t have happened to you.”
