The Manhattan district attorney is seeking an indictment against Harvey Weinstein next week, which is ignoring a New York Police Department plan to arrest the Hollywood producer, reports Page Six.
The NYPD has been building a case against Weinstein for allegedly raping actress Paz de la Huerta twice in 2010. Last week during a police briefing, Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the department is sharing information with the DA’s office and the next step would be to get an arrest warrant for Weinstein, who is currently out-of-state in Arizona. He is in rehab, reports Page Six.
According to Page Six, there has been tension between the NYPD and the DA Cy Vance’s office since each blamed each other for messing up the 2015 case against Weinstein, which stemmed from allegations by an Italian model. Instead of waiting for the arrest warrant, Vance plans on presenting a case to a grand jury first and waiting for an indictment. This is according to law enforcement sources, reports Page Six.
Chief Boyce last week said that De la Huerta’s case is credible because she can recount both incidents in detail. She is one of many women to have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape against Weinstein, but her case falls within the statute of limitations.
She claims that Weinstein gained access to her Tribeca apartment twice and then forced himself on her, reports Page Six.
“I did say no, and when he was on top of me, I said, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ He kept humping me and it was disgusting. He’s like a pig … He raped me,” she told Vanity Fair, according to Page Six.
