It’s been a year since the world lost Anthony Bourdain, yet another a piece of his creativity will soon be shared with all of us.

The multi-talented celebrity chef penned a graphic novel, Hungry Ghosts, which is being turned into an animated series by Sony Pictures Animation and writer Joel Rose, Eater reported. The four-part series is the tale of a Russian oligarch who wants to play a game of 100 candles with his chefs. Their Japanese-inspired task, according to Eater, is to “take turns telling ghastly tales of ghosts and demons.”

In one story, a ramen chef who denies food to a beggar ends up being eaten piece by piece by the very man he turned away.

“I had never heard of Kaiden, the Japanese Edo-period ghost stories, before Tony brought it up,” Rose said of his late collaborator last year. “Never heard of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai, the samurai game of 100 candles. Tony mentioned it first during a joint interview, and then afterwards over a beer at a nearby tavern, he got into it. He was encyclopedic.”

All four Bourdain stories were released in October along with five of his recipes inspired by the spooky tales.

While Sony has yet to say where the animated series will land, the production house noted that it will be an “anthology of frightening, hilarious, twisted, and culinary-inspired ghost stories,” and that each part will “range in tone and will look completely different from the last, taking advantage of various forms of animation to best fit each story.”
