Elon Musk’s Massive SpaceX Rocket Has New Name

Meet Starship, which can accommodate 100 people.

SpaceX’s most powerful rocket once called “BFR” now has a new name.

Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, who has recently been making waves for smoking weed during an interview and sparking a NASA safety investigation, made the announcement on Twitter:

“Starship is the spaceship/upper stage & Super Heavy is the rocket booster needed to escape Earth’s deep gravity well (not needed for other planets or moons),” Musk tweeted on Monday.

Yet to be determined is whether the 387 foot rocket, which accommodates 100 people, will actually launch anyone into space. With no government funding attached to the project, SpaceX is pouring its own money into getting the rocket operations, Mashable reports.

According to Musk, the Starship could be used for a variety of journeys throughout the universe. In September Musk described the spacecraft as an “interplanetary transport system that’s capable of getting people anywhere in the solar system.”
