The Tesla and SpaceX CEO decided the first step was to dig an experimental tunnel in his backyard. Elon Musk plans on constructing networks of tunnels throughout cities with faster and more efficient technology. The tunnels would carry individual cars or pods that could hold eight to sixteen passengers. The cars or pods would be on electric skates and travel up to 150 mph. You would think someone who is planning on building a train that could get people from New York City to Washington, D.C. in 30 minutes would love mass transit, but awkwardly, last week, Musk revealed he is not a fan. He doesn’t like to share space with other humans, he explained at a Tesla event. He called mass transit “a pain in the ass” and said “it sucks.” Wired asks the question, should we trust someone who hates mass transit — and therefore doesn’t use it — to build a new transit system?
