Given his response to receiving the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, Bob Dylan probably won’t be making the shortlist for the ‘17 Peace Prize.
Dylan — who had ample opportunity to acknowledge the honor at a concert he gave the night he received it — has yet to respond to the Swedish Academy’s attempts to contact him.
After making the 75-year-old the first ever songwriter to win the award, the Academy wants to know if he’ll be showing up to accept it from King Carl XVI Gustaf in Stockholm on December 10th. Given Dylan’s lack of a response, it appears the SA has given up on him like the folkies at Newport once did when he pulled out an electric guitar.
“Right now we are doing nothing. I have called and sent emails to his closest collaborator and received very friendly replies. For now, that is certainly enough,” SA permanent secretary Sara Danius said on Monday, according to The Guardian. “I am not worried. I think he will show up.”
While we hope the two sides connect, if they can’t, don’t think twice, it’s alright.
