The biggest battle of the new Aquaman movie may be unfolding on dry land — between fans of the superhero flick and those who had the nerve to leave theaters panning it.
Director James Wan took to Twitter on Sunday to play the hero, begging his followers to stop bullying the film’s detractors.
“It has come to my attention that some folks are getting harassed by some fans for not liking AQM,” he tweeted. “Please don’t do that. Not the kind of support I want. Be respectful. Vice versa, it’s ok to not like my film, but there’s no need to attack me personally, or tag me on hates. Peace,” he ended, with the “peace fingers” emoji.
Besides the film, starring Jason Momoa as the titular underwater hero, is winning something more important than hearts and minds: wallets. Aquaman has earned $188.8 domestically in its first week and a half, and hauled in $748.8 million globally.
