American Crime Story is back with season two, after a super successful first season last year. The People v. O.J. Simpson was a ratings powerhouse, and raked in five Emmys, four TCA awards and three Golden Globes. Now the show is back with The Assassination of Gianni Versace. The show focuses on the brutal murder of fashion designer Bianni Versace, who was shot on the front steps of his Miami Beach mansion in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunana. The new trailer promises glamour, sex, and violence, but it also gives details on why the producers wanted to tackle this particular crime story.
“Andrew’s journey is a journey through the politics of homosexuality as they play out across America in the 1990s,” executive producer Brad Simpson says in the clip, according to Town & Country. The trailer also gives viewers a chance to hear what the stars, including Darren Criss (who plays Cunanan), Penélope Cruz (Donatella Versace), Ricky Martin (Antonio D’Amico), and star Edgar Ramirez (Gianni Versace), think of the show. The first trailer was less detailed, but offered a glimpse into the Versace family’s grief, as well as the life Cunanan led before he murdered Versace. Check out the new trailer above and the older one below.
