6 Outstanding Patios for an Outdoor Drink Tonight

Also: "Bottomless PBR" and 25-cent wings

You’re in town?

And everyone else is away?

Building a cabin? Shaking out a beach towel? Stoking a campfire?

Let ’em go, we say. More room at our six favorite patio bars by the Bay.

And more room (in our bellies) for 25-cent wings, “bottomless PBR” and all things boozy and delicious.

The Royal Cuckoo
Truth: This fairy-lighted, nook-y space in the Outer Mission is the patio bar of our dreams, with enough corners for private time (at least on a non-weekend night). Trust the bartenders if you’re looking for something off the menu.

Broken Record
Best patio bar in town? Best dive bar south of 24th Street? Come by Broken Record and you can spend the evening debating these two key questions on the patio — ideally on a Tuesday (a.k.a. “Bottomless PBR and Bingo” night.)

Biergarten
The thing about Biergarten is even if you’ve read about it (and we’ve written about it) 1,000 times (estimated), you just can’t leave it off a list of the best patio bars in S.F. If you need to try something new, consider brunch? Be sure to hit it on a Wednesday for the Wednesday-only burger?

Mars Bar
Do you know of a better place in SoMa to celebrate an event like “Fried Chicken & Funk” — or to just sit back in the patio for Taco Tuesday and Coronas? There isn’t one. Follow them on Facebook for upcoming events, which are worth the detour.

Valley Tavern
We don’t know if we just always get lucky at this Noe Valley spot, but Valley Tavern is, to us, the patio equivalent of Hermione’s magical handbag — there’s always just enough room. Stay inside to watch baseball; retire here after the game for the drinks.

Teeth
We can’t beat patio-side $3 happy hour bottled beers — an event that’s even more convivial when it rolls straight into 25-cent wings on Wednesday nights. Is it us, or do patio bars seem to also have the best events? From here — 19th and Mission — it’s a quick trip to El Techo, our second-favorite patio bar in the neighborhood.
