Because every man needs a plan, and some of us need that plan with pretty pictures, we present Where to Take Her: a series that answers a gentleman’s most pressing lifestyle questions and recurs whenever we get around to it.

This go-round: our picks for skiing getaways, from high-tone to rustic. Strap on your goggles.

Waterville Valley Resort: Waterville Valley, NH. A lesser-known, family-friendly gem tucked away in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, mercifully free of city-dwelling hordes. Bonus: the Starry Nights Celebration, a nighttime ski down torchlit trails to a gourmet dinner in a cozy lodge on the slopes.

Smugglers’ Notch: Smugglers’ Notch, VT. First, it has an awesome name. Just try saying it. And while “Smuggs” boasts plenty of terrain for all skill levels, seasoned vets know that it’s also got some of Vermont’s toughest pitches – including the 53° “Black Hole,” the East Coast’s only triple black diamond.

Equinox Resort: Manchester Village, VT. A tony spa and inn just minutes from the widely varied trails of Bromley Mountain (check their handy interactive trail map), Equinox is the spot to relax post-schussing with a massage and couples sauna. Don’t feel like hitting the slopes? Drive a Land Rover over snowy forest trails instead.

Killington: Killington, VT. Killington boasts six peaks and 22 lifts servicing 3,000 acres, but where it really shines is in the aprés department (it’s ranked #1 in nightlife by SKI Magazine). Make your way to pub and club-lined Killington road to grab a classic cocktail at speakeasy On the ROCs before hitting the packed dancefloor at the Pickle Barrel.

Mont Tremblant: Mont Tremblant, Quebec. About as close as you’re gonna get to strolling a quaint village in the French Alps without an overseas flight. Something for everyone in the terrain department, plus charming cobblestoned Quebeçois streets lined with shops, top-notch restaurants and — will French Canadian wonders never cease — a casino.
