To keep tabs on every New York restaurant and bar opening is folly. But to keep tabs on the most worthy? Yeoman’s work, and we’re proud to do it. Thus we present Table Stakes, a monthly rundown of the five (or so) must-know spots that have swung wide their doors in the past thirty (or so). Bon appétit.
On everyone’s lips this month: pizza.
Mostly because Danny Meyer opened his highly anticipated Roman-style pizzeria.
Manning the ovens: Maialino executive chef Nick Anderer.
And in the East Village, another high-end pie shop opened, courtesy of the Morgenstern’s Ice Cream guys.
If they do slices half as well as they do scoops, expect a crowd.
Meanwhile, a former Meyer toque struck out to open a power-dining manse inside a former Tribeca armory.
Plus the Mulberry Project and Torrisi crews returned with New American and French offerings, respectively.
Enough to keep an enterprising gourmand busy, to be sure.
So dine on, and drink well.
