Everyone enjoys being there to see an up-and-coming band on the cusp of superstardom – if only “there” didn’t mean a deafening, sticky-floored, overcrowded tenement with a rabid groupie infestation.
So for a more refined experience, check out Sofar Sounds, a series of intimate, invite-only gigs held in well-heeled apartments around the world — and the next one takes place in New York on Monday night.
Launched by a trio of London music aficionados, Sofar’s “pop up” performances keep the focus on the music by enforcing a set of respectful “house rules”:
1. No talking.
2. No texting.
3. No arriving late, no leaving early.
Monday’s performer and location are closely kept secrets, but recent acts have included Magic Numbers, UK folkster Marcus Foster (recently featured on Jimmy Fallon), and even erstwhile vampire Robert Pattinson playing an acoustic guitar set.
Tickets are free, and getting one is a two-step process: first, join SoFar’s mailing list. Then use this link to RSVP. The first ten InsideHook readers will make the cut for Monday’s concert, and everyone will be included on the invite list for the next shows.
Monday’s concert will be livestreamed to Sofar’s 10,000-strong audience from Sydney to Buenos Aires — so when that band breaks, feel free to claim you saw their first world tour.
