Friendly Flyer

“What are we doing tonight?”

New Yorkers hate that question.

On the one hand: infinity things to do.

On the other hand: infinity things is too many.

Here to separate the wheat from the chaff: Flyer, a new iPhone app that relies on Pandora Radio-esque powers of intuition to help you plan and manage your social calendar.

After downloading (it’s free), you’ll be prompted to log-in using either your email or Facebook. You can then search for upcoming events according to the categories and sub-categories of your preference (“Indie Music,” “Classes and Lectures,” “Date Ideas,” etc.).

When you see an event you like (say, an Italian wine crash course at haute pizzeria Otto, or a DJ set at Village hot-spot Le Poisson Rouge), you can “Follow” the associated performer or venue, and Flyer will send you alerts when something similar is announced.

You can also buy tickets, save events to your iCal, or set an email reminder from the app.

Need some company? Forward a “Flyer” to a friend via email, Facebook or SMS.

Next question.
