Dinner Plan: All Star Chef Classic

The Royal Rumble of high-end dining returns to L.A.

From the driving, to the parking, to the not knowing where to drive or park, dinner in L.A. is harder than it should be. That’s why we created Dinner Plan — your itinerary to a damn good time.

This week: The All Star Chef Classic — now in it’s third year — is coming to the Staples Center March 9-12. Forty chefs from across the globe will be in attendance, and we know a pair of ambitious new cocktail bars nearby to make the trip worth your while.

Wet the Whistle

Downtown

A libation before you enter the arena is of utmost importance. Wet your whistle with equal measures buzz and flavor by bellying up to the bar at Faith and Flower. These guys reimagine old world cocktails by shaking, stirring and setting things ablaze. Check out the menu. It’s a just a short walk to Staples from here.

The Main Course

Downtown

There are two types of dinners you can attend at the All Star Chef Classic: Smaller dinners, in which five chefs work in tandem on a series of different courses, and larger dinners — dubbed “Grand Tastings” — in which 20 chefs throw their spoons in the toque. You get to watch from tiered seating while servers cruise by to keep you sated. And there’s wine. Check the schedule.

The Postgame

Downtown

Cocktails as sweet as a Caribbean breeze are but steps away. Caña Rum Bar has been slinging tasty beverages long before anyone else in the hood. Dark and lively like the rums they pour, Caña is a good place to grab a brown leather banquette while reminiscing on all the top-shelf plates you just devoured.
