Good seafood joints in our fair city are like parking spots come winter.
Few and far between.
But when you find that spot, you brag to the whole city about it.
So here ya’ go. It’s called Kinmont, the latest from the celebrated Element Collective team, and the city’s new all-sustainable seafood resto, now open in River North.
Housed in the long-standing but recently shuttered Zealous, Kinmont occupies a rustic, fisherman’s wharf-esque space and features a refined menu by a Rootstock and Lula vet (view it in full here).
Look to the east wall, where hand-painted signs announce the daily catch: fresh bivalves, seasonal bests and the “Field & Stream” option, a shareable whole-roasted fish of the day served up with local market vegetables.
We suggest taking a group here to enjoy flaky Atlantic hake atop buttered turnips and greens, all executed to perfection.
And you can’t go wrong with the smattering of freshness on their seafood platters, which are reason enough to make a reservation.
Just remember to call dibs on the oysters.
