Full disclosure: I have the directional sense of “Wrong Way Corrigan.” It’s downright awful. To the point where I’m often tempted to just go the opposite of what I think is the correct way to go.
And I ride motorcycles. Which means two things: A) I enjoy many scenic detours and B) I am always impossibly late.
Here is my savior.
Atlanta-based Steven Friedlander has created the GPS-enabled TurnPoint Smart Glove. The left glove is fitted with a conductive thread and pocket for a removable Bluetooth LE unit, which pairs with your smartphone’s map apps.
Easier and safer than glancing at a mounted phone, the unit’s LED lights illuminate in half-mile increments when a turn is coming up, alerting you first when it’s four miles, then three-and-a-half, etc., etc. Riders can also manually check for an upcoming turn by pressing the thumb and forefinger of the glove together.
Additional features may be on the horizon, such as battery info and/or a compass. Right now, the gloves will last up to eight hours on a single charge.
Currently in Kickstarter mode, a pair of gloves will cost $149 with a January delivery date. That’s a C-note off the full price of $249. Both seem like a fair asking for not having to say, “Sorry, I went the wrong way,” ever again.
