Remember when Red Bull was just a thing you combined with Jägermesiter to have easily forgettable nights in college?
Now it’s a branding empire synonymous with all things extreme, as evidenced by an endless list of events and collaborations that involves everyone from Aston Martin to a parachute-less Travis Pastrana.
Their newest project: the Peugeot 3008 DKR, a two-wheel-drive off-roading machine that is the natural successor to the previous Peugeot/Red Bull collaboration model that was victorious at the Dakar in January and Silk Way Rally in July.
To improve upon the older model, Peugeot’s engineers tweaked the vehicle’s three-liter V6 twin-turbodiesel engine, refined the electronic process it uses to manage the engine, and also tuned up the air-conditioning system to keep the cockpit from overheating in the desert.
The 340-HP DKR — which was nicknamed the “desert raider” after being tested in Spain — features carbon fiber bodywork that enhances its ability to hit a top speed of 124 MPH. It’ll make its competition debut at the Rally Oilibya in Morocco next month.
“The new 3008 symbolises the next step,” said Peugeot team director Bruno Famin. “Our goal with this car was to take the weaker points of the existing car and make them stronger, while capitalizing on all the existing strengths to improve them still further.”
