At an estimate $12.8 million, the most expensive car ever built was just unveiled at one of the world’s most exclusive car shows in Italy.
Described as “the automotive equivalent of Haute Couture,” the two-seater Rolls-Royce Sweptail was commissioned by an anonymous customer with an affinity for super-yachts and aircrafts.
The coupe, unveiled at Villa d’Este for Concorso d’Eleganza, takes its styling cues from the Rolls-Royces of the 1920’s and 1930’s as well as classic and modern yachts.
It took several years of close collaboration with the company’s design team to match the buyer’s specific vision. “Our job was to guide, edit and finely hone the lines that would ultimately give our client this most perfect of Rolls-Royces,” says Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The car “exudes the romance of travel for its own sake, and immediately places ‘Sweptail’ in the pantheon of the world’s great intercontinental tourers.”
