So WTF is it?
A “sidewinder” door, as seen on the 2017 Rezvani Beast Alpha, which lit up the LA Auto Show earlier this week.
What’s it do?
It lets you into the car, duh. Obviously, you say? Not when you consider that the original Beast didn’t have any doors. You stepped onto the seat and slid in from above. But with the Alpha’s Targa-style removable panel roof, Rezvani needed an entry solution. Sidewinders were the obvious choice. Whereas commonplace doors swing open, the sidewinder door piece is mounted on a sliding hinge and glides in parallel to the chassis, similar to a van door.
Who makes it?
Rezvani Motors, the brainchild of thrill-seeking Cali boy Ferris Rezvani. The design is a result of a collaboration with award-winning auto designer Samir Sadikhov, also known for his work on models such as the Ferrari Xezri and the Aston Martin DBC concept.
