The history of the Ferrari Testarossa dates back several decades, and includes an iconic exterior design with state-of-the-art (for its time) streamlining and an ability to accelerate shared by few of its peers. In the 1980s, the Testarossa’s appearance on the hit show Miami Vice raised its profile even more. More recently, prices for Testarossas have increased dramatically, as the coolest car of one era becomes the high-performance classic car of the next.
How does one improve on a classic? At Autoblog, Ronan Glon has details on how Officine Fioravanti are looking to do exactly that. The Swiss design firm has been cagey on specifics, but they have released some images of a restomodded 1984 Testarossa being put through the paces — and what can be gleaned from them is exciting indeed.
At Autoblog, Glon points out that the Testarossa boasts a new exhaust system, and “following it upstream leads gearheads to a mighty 4.9-liter flat-12 engine rated at 500 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.” The various modifications have made this vehicle approximately 260 pounds lighter than its non-modified counterparts. One effect of those changes? This Testarossa is now capable of speeds of over 200 miles per hour.
Other new features include a new suspension system and roll bars. As for what the next step here is, that remains to be seen — though we suspect some Ferrari enthusiasts will end up with a tantalizing purchase to consider before long.
