LA’s Museum Row has a new gatekeeper.

It’s taken 14 months, but today the Petersen Automotive Museum opens its doors, and where better to celebrate car culture than Los Angeles?

The first thing you’ll be struck by is the impressive bent metal facade of the building, a formal expression that echoes the many curves and angles of the cars within. But the exterior — developed in collaboration with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates — is just one of a thousand wows visitors will experience.

The museum has transformed a former department store into a three-story, 95,000-square-foot shrine to horsepower. And the programming is good. Really good. The launch features the exhibit Cars of Spectre, with several of the models featured in the latest Bond film, as well as Precious Metal, sponsored by Rolex and featuring among other silver unicorns the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in Goldfinger.
