Sounds Like We’re Getting a New Large Vehicle From Alfa Romeo

Other than that, details are minimal

Alfa Romeo’s automotive history includes a host of well-engineered cars, from the recent Giulia Quadrifoglio to the Spider roadsters that have achieved classic status. Among the automaker’s forthcoming projects is something a little larger than either of these — though exactly how much larger, and what form it’ll take, have yet to be determined.

Automotive News reports that the announcement came from the company’s CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, on a call with members of the press on Friday. “Our offer for a large-size vehicle must fit international markets — American, Chinese, European,” Imparato said.

This new large vehicle is set to debut in 2027.

As for what “large-size” might mean — a crossover? an SUV? — Imperato suggested that the company was looking into it. “We want to find the right mix,” he said. How this will fit in with the marque’s existing lineup — which includes the new Tonale and the Stelvio — remains to be seen.

The location of where this vehicle might be manufactured is also in the “TBD” camp. As Autoblog noted in their report on the call, Imperato said that producing the car in the United States “is something we don’t want to decide now.”

Parsing out this news is a bit like playing a game of 20 Questions, albeit one where we can all be sure that this forthcoming Alfa Romeo will indeed be bigger than a breadbox. On a larger sense, though, it’s also an indicator of how popular SUVs and crossovers remain in a number of big automotive markets — and it suggests that automakers don’t see that changing in the coming years.
