Sure, drinking out of the same whiskey glasses as Michael Jordan is a good conversation starter, and game-worn sneakers are even better. But rather than stocking your house with M.J. paraphernalia like a teenage fan, we’d suggest going one step further: picking up one of his cars.
While Jordan has driven plenty of enviable vehicles in his lifetime, many of which you probably saw in The Last Dance — like that “slantnose” Porsche and various Corvettes — one of his less flashy, though no less luxurious, daily drivers is going up for auction from Beverly Hills Car Club: a 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser.
“In The Last Dance, after Michael Jordan throws out the first pitch at a major-league baseball game, we see him peel off in the customized W140 S-class to escape reporters who are begging for answers on his pending retirement from the NBA,” wrote Car and Driver. The outlet also noted that the “Lorinser” name denotes the tuning company that worked on these cars, adding upgrades like a wide-body kit, dual exhaust and 18-inch chrome monoblock wheels.
Alongside a photo of Jordan next to the Benz — in one of his classic terrible-but-great fits that includes a white beret, black socks with white sneakers and a cutoff tucked into athletic shorts — Beverly Hills Car Club includes a title that proves his ownership.
In a weird twist that is not without precedent, the auction will take place on eBay sometime in the near future.
