So This Is a Mercedes

Where's the rest of it?

To allow a generation of drivers to cut out gasoline the same way they’ve already done with cable cords, gluten and bone-in fried chicken, Mercedes created a line of 100% electric cars.

Then, to make sure a generation that collectively has trouble rubbing two nickels together could actually buy one of the cars, Mercedes announced pricing for its 2017 Smart ForTwo models. Hint: they’re affordable as hell.

With a 96-cell lithium battery that can fully charge in three hours, the improved two-seat Smart ForTwo has a range of up to 80 miles, a top speed of 81 MPH and a 7 kW on-board charger.

The new Smart ForTwos have improved power, space and standard features compared to previous models and, thanks to a freshly designed cabrio edition with a large sliding canvas sunroof and folding soft “tritop,” also offer the only electric-drive convertible on the market.

One thing they don’t have? Improved looks. That being said, the only thing harder to ignore about the line than its appearance might be its price ($23,800 for the coupe and $28,000 for the cabrio, excluding added savings from federal and state incentives).

It might not be easy being green, but the 2017 Smart ForTwos at least make it easy to save some.
