Lexus just pulled the cover off its 42-foot Sport Yacht concept, and it’s everything luxury boat-lovers could dream of having on the high seas. Stylishly sleek and peppy, it has twin V8 inboard engines, which produce 950 total hp and ratchet the Sport Yacht’s top speed up to 49 mph (43 knots). If that doesn’t satisfy the speed demon inside you, Sport Yacht also comes with a “turbo boost” option that adds 1,000 rpm over the normal limit. How did Lexus come up with all that speed? The boat’s hull is made from plastic reinforced with carbon-fiber, making it incredibly lightweight.
Ideal for a day trip down the coast or water sports with the family, Lexus’ Sport Yacht has room for eight. The captain’s chair arms fold out into two extra seats in case he or she wanted to cozy up with some additional company. Controlled by a seven-inch touchscreen panel at the helm, the boat comes loaded with Wi-Fi, GPS navigation, digital charts, surface radar, underwater sonar, and lighting and sound systems.
Below deck, the cabin is outfitted with refined Lexus leather, with wood and glass details, imported from Italy. The galley features a two-burner stove, sink, and stowed-away fridge, leaving enough space for six people to enjoy meals on the nearby sofa and table. It’s also equipped with a full shower.
The Sport Yacht is a collaboration between the luxury car manufacturer, engineers from parent company Toyota’s marine division, and Marquis yachts; and was inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar, capable of reaching speeds of up to 202 mph. “This concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht allowed us to explore how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime lifestyle,” said Yoshihiro Sawa, executive vice president of Lexus International, in a press release.
The concept was revealed at the Miami Boat Show as a custom one-off project. Those eager to get their hands on the Lexus Sport Yacht may be crestfallen to learn the company has no intention of producing it. That could change, however, if the demand is there.
