Last December, Ford stopped taking reservations for the F-150 Lightning, the electric version of its best-selling pickup truck. By the time the automaker had closed down reservations, they had close to 200,000 takers — an impressive display of confidence in a next-generation version of an automotive favorite.
If you missed the previous reservation window, there’s good and bad news on the horizon. The good news is that Ford plans to begin taking more reservations for the F-150 Lightning in the near future. The catch? You’ll be paying a bit more for it in this new period.
That’s one of the key takeaways from The Verge’s reporting on Ford’s plan. Another is that reservations are set to reopen on Thursday, and a deposit of $100 will get you a place in line. In a statement, Marin Gjaja, the chief customer officer for Ford Model E, the automaker’s electric division, stressed that existing reservation holders will be charged the amount that they were expecting to pay.
For the new group of reservation holders, however, those prices will be around $7,000 higher for each of the configurations that will be available. On the plus side, however, the range for which you can expect to drive your F-150 Lightning on a single charge has been updated — and it’s now around 240 miles. You might be paying more, but at least you’ll have improved performance to show for it.
