Mercedes-Benz knows a thing or two about cars. Also, as we just found outs, trucks. Big ones.
Following what feels like eons of teasing, Mercedes-Benz gave a sneak preview of its new line of X-Class pickups during a reveal party in Cape Town that was attended by all of the marque’s top brass.
More details and production photos are still to come, but where’s what we got for ya so far:
“A Mercedes pickup can never be limited just to body and appearance,” Mercedes CEO Dieter Zetsche said at the launch event. “It also brings style and intelligence to the table, ready to mix it up with the big dogs at any occasion. This car is the multi-layered partner any human being could ask for. It’s a bit like a cowboy hat: reliable and protective at work during the day, stylish at the bar at night.”
The customizable X-Class comes standard with permanent four-wheel drive, active and passive safety features, smartphone connectivity, and all the aesthetics we’ve come to expect from Mercedes.
Available as either a four- or six-cylinder model, the X-Class is launching in Europe this November for about $43,000, with further launches to follow in South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Brazil. While it’s not clear when — or if — the pickup will be arriving stateside, we’ve got our fingers crossed.
