“Less is more” is not a principle that has traditionally informed design policy at Ferrari HQ.
But it’s an apt descriptor for their newest model, a family sedan called the GTC4Lusso T. The T is a sportier, more compact follow-up to the four-seat GTC4Lusso the iconic Italian marque revealed earlier this year. But instead of beefing up the new model with more power, Ferrari has decided to strip things down.
They took the 6.3-liter V12 the original GTC4Lusso had under the hood and replaced it with a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter VB, reducing the horsepower output from 681 to a smidge over 600. Gone too is the all-wheel-drive setup, which has given way to a rear-wheel-drive system for the T.
And even though the new model is lighter, it’s doubtful the T can hit the old GTC4’s 208 MPH top speed or equal its 0-60 time. (Since its supposed to be a family car, that could be a non-issue, but we thought you should know.)
Other than those changes, the exterior of the GTC4Lusso T “remains the same innovative take on the shooting brake coupé” and its cabin is still an “effortless melding of distinctive Ferrari styling and the luxurious elegance expected of a four-seater GT,” according to a press release.
There’s no news on pricing for the model, but if it ends up costing more than its predecessor ($300,000 and up), we’ll probably stick with the original (which will still be produced).
Less bang and more buck: not a good combo.
