The Netherlands’ Den Hartogh Museum opened just over 20 years ago with a single purpose: to house the enormous private automotive collection of shipping magnate Piet den Hartogh, which he began building 1956.
At its height, the Museum held a Guiness Record for the sheer breadth of its annals, with more than 200 vehicles spread across some 5,000 square foot of exhibition space. Predominately populated by Fords (Types A, B and C), Lincolns and old motorcycles, it’s been a tourist attraction with waxing and waning interest over the years, and the family has finally decided to close the museum for good.
Everything will go at once, rather than pieced out by lots over time, though they did already sell off about 50 items in a 2014 sale. The sale will be handled by Bonhams, and is scheduled for June 23rd in Hillegom, Netherlands.
