The Corvette C1 was released into this world in 1953. She was a two-set roadster with a measly inline-six. And that C1 shell was constructed of glass fiber-reinforced plastics.
We’ve come a long way, baby.
Because in celebration of the Corvette’s 65th anniversary, Chevy is releasing a new Carbon 65 Edition, in the 2018 Grand Sport 3Lt and ZO6 3LZ models.
Each edition will feature a visible carbon-fiber trim on the rear spoiler and quarter ducts, while the rest of the exterior is done up in Ceramic Matrix Grey. To sweeten the carbon package, the interior will include special detailing like a carbon-fiber steering wheel.
Other accents on the Carbon 65 Edition package include special fender stripes, door graphics, blue brake calipers, a jet black suede interior with blue stitch and Competition Sport seats.
“Corvette is one of the most storied names in Chevrolet and sports car history, with a heritage few can match,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “The new Carbon 65 Edition honors that legacy, while offering customers another unique, special-edition model that personalizes the ownership experience.”
Chevy will produce 650 units globally. Not too cut-throat for a limited-edition and likely to make many a ‘Vette head pleased, save the steep-ish cost of $15,000 a pop.
