After quietly ending production of the ELR coupe in a manner befitting the electric model’s noise-canceling system, Cadillac is getting back into the hybrid game with a turbocharged roar.
The American automaker announced the new CT6 Plug-In Hybrid sedan will have an all-electric range of 30 miles and total range of more than 400 miles when it goes on sale in 2017, numbers that are fairly impressive considering the car’s 5.2-second 0-60 time and 150 MPH top speed.
To achieve those marks, Cadillac outfitted the 335-HP plug-in with a turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine, a pair of electric motors and an all-new rear wheel drive electric transmission.
“In the CT6, Cadillac presents a new formula for prestige luxury,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “The advanced plug-in hybrid system is a key addition, providing a combination of exceptional fuel economy, crisp acceleration and strong electric-driving range.”
With additional options like a rear seat infotainment system and a rear camera system with night vision technology, the new CT6 starts at $75,095, but that price will hopefully come with tax incentives.
