Jared Ranahan

Raised in a quiet town on the South Shore of Massachusetts, Jared attended Northeastern University, graduating with a degree in Finance (that he never used). During his time in undergrad, he spent half a summer in an intensive Chinese language program at Nanjing University, then completed two six-month co-ops in Singapore and the Netherlands, all of which instilled a fiery passion for travel in his heart.

Since then, he’s spent time living in Savannah, Los Angeles, Bogotá, and the Island of Hawaiʻi, but he always makes his way back to Massachusetts, which—in spite of its terrible winters—will always have a special place in his heart.

Jared was raised on a steady stream of David Attenborough and Steve Irwin documentaries, so one of his foremost passions in life is wildlife and nature. Underrated ecotourism destinations and hotels with strong eco-conservation programs are a few of his favorite topics to cover, and he’s a HUGE fan of birding. In addition to wildlife, he’s also a big fan of craft beer, rum, and every food imaginable (unless it’s a raw tomato).

Jared believes that there's an incredible story to be told about every destination on earth, no matter how underexplored or disparaged it is—he’s just as happy trekking for orangutans in the North Sumatra rainforest as he is road tripping through rural Nebraska.
