From the North to the Vale to Dorne, any environment devised by George R.R. Martin tends to be attended by an air of, well, imminent dread. In other words: probably not the kind of place you want to visit for a breezy holiday.
But he’s giving us the opportunity anyway.
After adopting Santa Fe, New Mexico as his hometown, Martin recently bought a bowling alley and forked over $2.5 million to renovate it after a local artist collective convinced him to create a combination immersive art installation/children’s museum within city limits.
Since opening last year,, Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return has evolved into a 20,000-square-foot collaborative showcase putting the work of more than 100 local artists — painters, architects, sculptors, video producers, audio engineers — on display.
“They explained this vision of a Victorian house, unmoored in time and space with a haunted forest and a magical cave system, and portals to other worlds,” Martin told NPR. “And of course, it pushed all my buttons. I love that kind of stuff.”
