All-Star player Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles reported receiving racial taunts during a Monday night game against the Boston Red Sox.
Jones said he was “called the N-word a handful of times” and had a bag of peanuts thrown at him during a game that saw at least two-dozen fans ejected.
“It’s unfortunate that people need to resort to those type of epithets to degrade another human being,” Jones declared and expressed particular concern about having anything thrown at him, noting the risk of eye injury.
Red Sox president Sam Kennedy and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh have both apologized for the fan behavior.
