NBA All-Star Charles Barkley spent last night on or around a stage in Alabama as Doug Jones celebrated his win over Roy Moore. Jones, the underdog in the race, shocked the country by being elected in the red state. Barkley spent the eve of the election urging his home state to vote against Moore, an openly and proudly bigoted candidate, who has also been accused of molesting multiple women when they were girls and he was in his 30s. Barkley told the crowd, “At some point, we have to stop looking like idiots to the nation,” reports CBS Sports. The sports commentator formally kept quiet about his political views, though he has said he was formally a Republican. His views changed when the party “lost their damn minds.” This election, he did not hold back, saying, “Roy Moore was an embarrassment.” But he said he was not interested in running for governor of Alabama, and when asked about his plans in the wake of the surprise win by Jones, he said his goal was to “get as drunk as I possibly can.”
