Following a weekend that saw second-team center Wesley French and second-team right guard Will Fries line up next to each other for the Indianapolis Colts during Saturday’s salty preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, there’s more fun with names getting teed up for this week courtesy of someone over at the U.S. Amateur Championship in New Jersey.
But first, the French Fries line.
As for the U.S. Amateur Championship, that event will feature a trio of golfers who have been grouped together by the names of Mark Costanza, Hazen Newman and Campbell Kremer. Although it could be a crazy coincidence, one has to think that the party was put together by someone who enjoyed the antics of Seinfeld characters George Costanza, Cosmo Kramer (close enough to Kremer) and Newman (only one name).
Taking place at the Ridgewood Country Club and nearby Arcola Country Club, the 122nd U.S. Amateur Championship will welcome 309 of the best non-professionals from 29 different countries in addition to Costanza, Newman and Kremer. Of the three, it sounds as if Costanza is no joke.
“Costanza is the most notable player of the bunch,” according to The Golf Channel. “The 33-year-old investment banker, who was born near Ridgewood, is a two-time Met Golf Association player of the year and was runner-up to Stewart Hagestad at last year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur.”
Yada, yada, yada and we’ll see what happens but Costanza, Newman and Kremer are real and hopefully they play spectacularly when the U.S. Amateur tees off today.
