Due to similar concerns, we’d advise whoever ends up with the fully restored 1959 Volkswagen Samba Campervan that’s hitting the block next month to also refrain from chucking rocks.
One of a handful of right-hand-drive Samba Campervans in existence, this ‘59 model is called the “Holy Grail” by collectors and features 23 windows, including eight skylights and a sunroof.
Restored over three years to time-period-authentic standards during a process that literally involved removing every nut and bolt, the current owner painstakingly sourced all parts from original sources, except the 65-MPH 1600 twin port engine that now powers the Campervan.
Going under the hammer June 10th courtesy of Classic Car Auctions, the van may fetch $72,000.
“How the owner managed to source all original parts is quite extraordinary,” said Simon Langsdale of CCA. “This has to be one of the most original, restored Campers anyone can find anywhere, as well as a true testament to VW appreciation.”
