With high-profile automotive startups abounding in recent years, it’s not surprising that the DeLorean name has also been revived. The new version of the company has been touting an upcoming electric car for a while now, and revealed a few tantalizing glimpses of it earlier in the year. Now, the company has taken another step towards delivering a vehicle into the hands of interested buyers. On Sunday, DeLorean released the first images of the Alpha5 to their “early access subscribers.”
An article at Engadget has more information on the Alpha5, along with some of the images. Among the details mentioned in their article are the fact that the automaker is again working with ItalDesign, who worked on the original DeLorean, and that it takes some cues from ItalDesign’s work on the Lancia Medusa.
As for the images themselves, they show a sleek design with two rows of seats and two massive gullwing doors. The full reveal is slated to take place on Monday. It’s estimated to have a range of over 300 miles on a single charge, and will be able to reach 155 miles per hour.
“There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future,” said DeLorean Motor Company Chief Marketing Officer Troy Beetz in a statement. “I think we did both with the Alpha5.”
