Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of it. Today: The Claw goes tropical, A.P.C. draws inspiration from the gentlemen’s game and Shinola teams up with Benchmade for an exquisite EDC.
Paraboot For The Hip Store Collection
Paraboots are decidedly French — the heritage footwear has been a Parisian staple since it’s 1908 inception — and The Hip Store, one of the UK’s premier curated shopping experiences, couldn’t be more British if it tried. So does that make their collaboration … the English Channel? We’re getting sidetracked here. The Michael and Reims Loafer have been made over in exquisite fashion, with cowhide tongues to compliment premium leather. Good for every occasion, they’re the only shoe we want in 2022.
Shinola x Benchmade Crooked River Carbon Fiber Knife
For their latest collaboration, Shinola and Benchmade have cooked up a carbon fiber pocketknife to match the former’s carbon fiber dive watch. Based on Benchmade’s Crooked River line, this upgraded take includes a carbon fiber handle designed in-house by Shinola paired with a 4-inch CPM-S30V steel blade. Almost too handsome to use. Almost.
Butcher In A Box
Just launched, Butcher in a Box offers grass-fed, grass-finished Tasmanian quality beef cuts (dry-aged NY steaks, filet mignon, bone-in ribeye, dry-aged tomahawks, etc.), curated by Chef Sam Marvin of Echo & Rig and delivered to your door bimonthly.
NFT Wine Club
Wine clubs? Hot. Non-fungible tokens? Hot, but harder to explain (or imbibe) and bad for the environment. The metaverse? Um …. Anyway, the practically-named NFT Wine Club describes itself as the “first NFT Wine Club in the #Metaverse.” It’s supposedly an opportunity to own a vineyard in Napa (we’re talking 3,600 real-life vines), with your money tied to NFTs. There’s also some sort of metaverse wine bar angle that, admittedly, we really don’t understand.
Pro-Ject Automat A1
The Automat is Pro-Ject’s first fully automatic turntable. Handmade in Germany, this is a hi-fi plug-and-play option that should appeal even to audiophiles who traditionally turn their noses up at automatic designs.
Salehe Bembury x Canada Goose NBA All-Star Collection
Salehe Bembury has been making waves since breaking into the fashion industry, first with his Anta hiking footwear and more recently with his massively wavy Crocs collab. Now, he gets the chance to make over premium outerwear retailer Canada Goose just in time for the All-Star Game. While we are not professional basketball players, we are still planning on rocking the hell out of this collection.
Leica L1 and L2 Watches
In 2018, the camera experts at Leica announced they were getting into watches. No, they weren’t allowing some other company to make watches using their brand (something they’ve done in the past), these were in-house, Leica-approved timepieces! It took them four years, but those watches are finally here: the L1 and L2, both featuring a 41mm case, a brand-new manual-winding mechanical movement, and a patented push crown topped with the brand’s signature red dot. There’s lots more to learn about these, and the Leica staff will be happy to educate you as these are only available in select stores. For U.S. buyers, Los Angeles is the only one carrying them at the moment.
Cole Haan Generation ZERØGRAND II Sneaker
The Generation ZERØGRAND II has genuinely stumped us. Somehow, Cole Haan has managed to make a propriety midsole out of dandelions. Yes, you heard that right — the flowers you picked, and potentially ate, as a child are now powering your newest office-appropriate kicks. We don’t get it, but good on Cole Haan: the shoe is an impressive step toward sustainable footwear.
Cardinal Spirits Bourbon Cream Soda
New from the Indiana-based Cardinal Spirits, this canned cocktail is basically an adult cream soda (with real Madagascar vanilla beans) featuring a bourbon base.
Spy+ Optic Marauder Magnetic Elite Snow Goggles
Spy+ Optic’s magnetic sunglasses are built for performance and incorporate all sorts of patented tech, like their “therapeutic” Happy lens, RC® injected Toric dual-lens, and 100% UPF protection, just in case regular goggles are not good enough for you.
Sony NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 Walkmen
Do you need a gold-plated Sony Walkman? Does anyone really need anything at all?
Rumpl x Snow Peak Nanoloft Takibi Blanket
Snow Peak and Rumpl make sense together: both produce quality camping and outdoors gear, both feature artisanal craft and premium products and both have an eye for aesthetics. It’s probably why the Nanoloft Takibi blanket is on our must-pack list for any and every outdoor endeavor.
A.P.C. GOLF
A.P.C.’s newly unveiled golf collection avoids the main pitfall of so many other designer golf collections. All too often, design houses get a little too cute, lean hard enough into dopey stereotypes about the loud clothing that’s traditionally been associated with the sport, ultimately resulting in pieces no actual golfer would ever wear. But A.P.C.s gotten it right: classic, subtle practical in its performance elements, but undeniably very stylish. Now you’ll be the best dresses guy on the course — not just the one everyone’s staring at.
Gillettelabs x Bugatti Special Edition Heated Razor
This heated razor kit (a first) now features some cool design details, thanks to a collaboration with the auto legends at Bugagtti. The kit comes with a heated razor, 2x GilletteLabs blades and a charging station.
Margin The Active Moisturizer
Designer moisturizer! We repeat, designer moisturizer! Margin is the newest (and hottest) wellness brand to blip on our radar, and their active moisturizer — rich with hydrating factors, protective antioxidants, and skin-renewing acids — feels like a miracle elixir during the dry winter. Also, $65 (Canadian!) a pop.
White Claw Passionfruit
Goodbye, mango. Hellooo, passionfruit. A like-for-like tropical swap-out sees the worst part of the White Claw Variety Pack No.2 (fight us) replaced with a much more palatable option. How many of these do you think we can crush before we throw up?
Fat Tire x Burton
Fat Tire x Burton is yet another physical signal for you to start snowboarding drunk (as if you weren’t already). The four item collection is composed of a co-branded hat, sweatshirt, parka, and board, to let people know that you’re really, really into the Aspen brewery scene.
