Bundle up, we’re going to the Baltic Sea where one of the sickest custom builders in the moto game is putting Estonia on the map.
From Andres Uibomäe of Renard Speed Shop comes this vintage-inspired BMW R90/6 cafe racer, maybe one of the best custom builds in recent times. But at a glance you wouldn’t be able to tell there was anything recent about it: this tough mudder pays homage to the BMW Type 255 Kompressor ridden by Georg “Schorsch” Meier for the win at the ‘39 Isle of Man TT.
“The main goal was to build a factory racer-style bike that still had great riding properties, and I think it turned out great,” Uibomäe told Bike Exif.
Hope that’s a language barrier. Accented perfectly with a perforated leather seat and stripped down just right with a fuel tank from a classic Moto Guzzi V7 Special, this midnight number is more than great. It’s a dream.
The ad-hoc bits from the tires to the lighting were bespoke requests from the client, and while even the shop wasn’t certain it was all going to come together, it became a total Picasso — all sorts of piecemealed WTF-is-going-on-here that led to a masterpiece.
It’s reliable. It’s smart. It’s oh-so very cool. What else is there?
