The most famous skateboarder on planet earth is set to begin a new career as a fried-chicken hawker.
In collaboration with California chef Andrew Bachelier, formerly of Jeune et Jolie, retired pro skater Tony Hawk will be opening Chick N’ Hawk in Encinitas by the spring of 2022 and serve a menu that includes, among other things, chicken sandwiches, according to Eater.
Hawk, a North County resident and investor, is a longtime fan of Bachelier’s cooking and the pair have taken multiple scouting trips to try the country’s most famous chicken sandwiches in order to improve the offerings they will be serving up at Chick N’ Hawk once it opens.
Named in homage to the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn, Chick N’ Hawk will offer seafood like shrimp cocktail and fish ceviche as well as seasonal produce in addition to its poultry dishes. The 1,500-square-foot restaurant, which will be designed to celebrate ’90s skate and surf culture, will also boast a full cocktail bar.
“The spot will offer sit-down service and quicker casual ordering for people who wants [sic] to take their chicken sandwich to the skate park,” according to People.
An investor at several local restaurants including Animae, Herb & Sea and Market Del Mar, 53-year-old Hawk will serve as Chick N’ Hawk’s chief taste tester as well as the restaurant’s unofficial skater.
