If these speed wars aren’t proof that the world is going nowhere fast, I don’t know what is.
Because while I adore a manufacturer’s guttural thirst to produce more power, I haven’t the slightest where all these drivers are letting these ponies run free.
But if you’re one the hunt for something faster than the F12 Berlinetta, with its measly 731 horsepower, then you’re in luck. Because the Ferrari 812 Superfast V12 — with a whopping 789 horsepower— just descended upon the Geneva Auto Show.
While Ferrari is doubling down on the buzz that the Superfast is the most powerful Ferrari in history, the LaFerrari hypercar might have something to say about that. Problem with the LaFerrari is, you have to earn the right to buy one of those beauties.
So, the Superfast is just the most powerful ride anyone can buy.
It’s still dead sexy. And all that brawn comes more from displacement than output with higher-pressure fuels system, variable-geometry intakes and also a switch to electric power steering. All in, we’re talking 800 CV. That’s 530 lb-ft of torque, a 0-62 in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph.
That’s faster than a rumor on the wind. Faster than fake news on Twitter.
It’s a righteous ride all around in a special Rosso Settanta launch color, a nod to the celebration of the company’s 70th anniversary. Where the driver is going to unleash the V12 Superfast’s 8,500 rpm outside the track is beyond me.
I just hope their not peacocking next to a LaFerrari. Would hate for its 949 horsepower to put anyone to shame.
