There’s a school of thought out there asserting that people only watch auto races for the crashes. Not that anyone would ever wish for a crash in any way, shape or form, but rather, that morbid curiosity is something hard-coded into our sports-watching genes.

If you are nodded your head vigorously at this assertion, this is most definitely going to be your thing.

Last night, in the deepest, darkest recesses of the Mojave desert, 90 adrenaline junkies took to some severely intense desert terrain to battle the elements — and each other — in the first ever Battle of the Motos. A division of the King of the Hammers race series, the event pitted riders of all skill levels against one another in what can only be described as a battle royale. The only rules seem to be that everyone starts at the same time, you’ve gotta wear a helmet, tracker and lights, and riders may receive no pit stops or outside assistance whatsoever.

It’s unclear how many of the 90 finished the race, but KTM factory-sponsored Taylor Robert finished first, with 29 minutes 23 seconds on the clock. And shout out to Evan Ask, the premier amateur rider, who came in at 53 minutes.

The King of the Hammers continues through February 11th. Keep up with the madness right here.
