Cameron Crowe Is Reissuing the “Almost Famous” Soundtrack as a Massive 103-Song Box Set

Almost Famous fans, it’s all happening: for the first time, all of the music featured in Cameron Crowe’s classic ode to music journalism and ’70s rock — yes, all 103 songs — will be released as a massive new limited-edition box set.

The expanded soundtrack set will also include snippets of some of the film’s most memorable dialogue, including Russell’s “I’m a golden god” scene, an overprotective Elaine (Frances McDormand) yelling “Don’t take drugs!” and Kate Hudson’s insistence as Penny Lane that she’s not a groupie but a “Band Aid.” The “Uber Box” edition, which will be out July 9 via UMe, will be spread across five CDs or seven LPs and also include a 7-inch of Stillwater’s “Fever Dog,” William Miller’s Rolling Stone cover story on the group, a 40-page photo book, Lester Bangs’ Creem business card, backstage passes and more.

“We are extremely proud to revisit Almost Famous with a very special bounty of goodness,” Crowe said in a statement. “For the first time, we’ve created a deluxe soundtrack that features nearly every song from the film, along with Nancy Wilson’s wonderfully evocative score … Something magical happened when the actor and the scene and the music worked together. Often it’s a shotgun marriage, but every once in a while, everything clicks. That’s when a movie can sear your soul.”
