You’re never too old for comic books.
Especially this kind: a graphic novel retelling of 1971 Steve McQueen film Le Mans, which was itself a fictionalized version of McQueen’s participation in the epic 24-hour race a year earlier. The film, which has garnered a cult following for its realism and, well, the fact that Steve McQueen is in it, so inspired Belgian illustrator Sandro Garbo that he decided to give it a re-up. The project took him three years to complete.
Watch the trailer above for a sneak peek at the blood, sweat and diesel Garbo and his team put into the project, which recreates the legendary cars that appeared in the race in painstaking detail: a Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512 swap paint on the track, while street cars like the Citroen DS and Porsche 911 make appearances in interstital scenes.
